This is probably the least professional shop ive ever dealt with. I could go on all day but ill just highlight some things. So you know the shop is bad when youre able to diagnose your car better than the owner. I was able to take it home and diagnose my own issue in 20 minutes. Vs the answer i got from the owner after having my car for 4 to 5 days. "Im not sure whats going on but i think you have a bad clutch and suspension ill take a look and call you tomorrow" (they never called by the way) what a joke. The clutch has 25k miles on it and it quality performance part. No clutch goes bad in 25k miles of normal driving and the rear main seal of the engine is fine so the friction surfaces are not covered in oil. Clutch pressure is fine maybe a little low but very operational. All i had to do to determine my issue was use a breaker bar as a stethoscope on my gearbox while it was in gear and noticed no bad noises. So its a passenger side wheel bearing thats bad and a sway bar end link. Need some lower ball joints too. Like i said i determined this all within 15 minutes myself at home. Now all he told me was i have suspension issues that i know of and i will do that work myself since its easy and doesnt require and engine support beam, a transmission jack, etc. So while i at the time had a decent feeling my gearbox was operating fine the owner did not do a good job to clarify that he knew exactly what was wrong with it. Gave the very vague answer of "suspension issues clutch you can smell it. Lies.". So while i had a feeling my gearbox was operating fine i still knew it was in rough condition as i told the owner the history of the gearbox(leaked fluid from seals for months lots of metal on magnetic drain plug) i told them to just go ahead and start changing the transmission as this is acting as preventive maintenance. While the gearbox may be operating fine now, i know the internal bearings and gears and synchos are wore down and wanted to replace it regardless. So they refused to do that work (which is fine he didnt even know how to remove my key from my cars ignition so do i really trust him to even follow the cars maintenance manuals 53 or so steps following axial clearances utilizing shims when necessary etc? No i didnt) i think lack of communication really was bad too he never made clear me to he understood the issues. From my perspective he still wasnt sure the specific issues. I Guess when you've worked on your own specific model car for nearly a decade anyone other than an expert will look inept to me. Only the pros from now on stay away from this place.************* As an edit to the owners response since i cant seem to do it. I told you i was aware it was most likely not the gear box but i wasnt the one who had done a diagnosis at this point HE WAS. I was speculating vs him who "looked at the car" i told him that i wanted the thing changed anyways regardless if it was operational. (Never mentioned it wasnt in my budget) I said i can do the suspension work myself i never asked him to warranty the work on it or make the car road worthy. Like i said communication issues. I also, as he mentioned told him my budget around 1900$. When i asked him (numerous times) if he could make the job happen with my budget it was always the "oh gee i dont know" i finally just told him ill pick it up and work on it myself as this is definitely the worst communication from an adult ive ever seen. It may be far for some people but MIKES AUTO in haddam is the way to go. OH i almost forgot how could i? So you just said my car has no issuea shifting RIGHT? So then why did you try to tell me originally its a clutch issue and that "you can smell it" thats severely misdiagnosed. You call this place professional? stay stay away! They say the repairs would cost me more than 1900$ but to change a transmisson on my car takes around 6 hours of labor and maybe an hour to bleed the clutch and top fluids off etc. Lets be generous and apply a 100 hour rate. So 7×100 is 700$ as far as im concerned i had plenty of money he just didnt want to do the job.
