WHO WE ARE

Uncle Al’s Automotive is a family-owned business, serving you since 1996.

Owner Alan Anderson grew up in the Milwaukie area and worked at several auto repair shops in Milwaukie and Oregon City in the early 1990’s. His interest in anything with an engine only grew with each experience. In 1996, he ventured out on his own and founded Uncle Al’s Mobile Auto & Marine Service. It was such a success, he needed to expand after one year. That’s when he took over Beta Automotive in Gresham. By the end of 1998, he was looking to expand once again. In the spring of 1999, he purchased the building where Uncle Al’s Automotive now sits, near the heart of downtown Gladstone.

But it wasn’t an easy move! The building, which was originally a carriage shop in the early part of the century, needed a lot of work. Alan spent the next seven years doing renovations, including gutting parts of the building and moving or expanding service bays. In the lobby today, you’ll see an architectural rendering for the front of the existing building that was developed during that time.

In 2016, Alan’s business continued to evolve as he began to take on parts and service for Yamaha YXZ side-by-sides. He is now recognized across the country for his skills in building, repairing and servicing YXZ’s for everything from high-stakes races to fun family trips.

Alan is an ASE Certified Master Automobile Technician, which signifies the highest, most stringent standards of auto repair excellence.

He is married to Kelsey and has three beautiful daughters, who keep him on his toes! As a family, they enjoy playing in the sunshine, boating and soaking in the beautiful moments God gives us every day.

took our car in for a power steering leak-they quoted me $660--I took it to Tonkin Kia--$167--these people are dishonest crooks--and actually quite grumpy and rude--I will never bring my car here again and I don't recommend you do either.

While I was not overly impressed with Al's customer service or how he he clearly steered away from wanting to discuss the costs on the bill, the most irritating part of my interaction was his lack of concern for his customer's vehicle. One of his guys parked my car a block away from the shop and did not lock the vehicle. They parked it at about 3:53 pm and I did not arrive until a few minutes before 5:00 pm (about an hour). When I let him know that it had been left unlocked, he told me that it had "literally" just been parked. I told him that it hadn't literally just been parked because I had walked from that direction and not seen anyone drop it off. He replied to say that it had been parked right after our last phone call (which ended at 3:52 pm). I then repeated to him that it had not been parked literally just now. Instead of simply admitting the mistake, he brushed it off and wouldn't respond to my complaint. That will be the last time they see any of my vehicles.

Am very grateful to have Uncle Al's Auto shop nearby - they are trustworthy, professional, and reliable. Won't want to trust my car to anyone else!

Unprofessional and awkward/rude. I stopped by asking about transmission work, said were busy but stop by next week and they can do the work. I asked when. “Anytime”. I was already a bit dubious at this point. Fast forward, I take time off work to come in the next week. They said were busy but can at least take a quick look, and said to leave the car and come back in a couple hours. I’m already slightly annoyed at this point- clearly scheduling and being considerate of my time doesn’t appear to be a priority at this point. I return a couple hours later, only to find that this guy cant even stop what he’s doing to bother chatting - he simply said “ yeah it needs work”. I asked for more info/ his opinion etc and he said rather rudely “I’ll call you later”. Flabbergasted, I said can’t you just tell me now while I’m here? “ No I’ll call you”. I was already sensing that this isn’t the mechanic for me and that this was a brush off. He never did call, and I ended up paying a lot more elsewhere, but based on what the other shop had to do, I’m guessing the amount of labor was too much for the rough quote he gave me originally. However, rather than state that I can’t/ don’t want to work on this transmission because it’s not my specialty, or say that there a lot more work involved and I’d have to charge more (not unreasonable), or some other polite but honest response, it seems like he prefers just giving potential customers the cold shoulder. I went to Canby transmission which was a much better experience.
